patience in bloom

when tyler was about 4 or 5 months old, i was walking into the daycare center, in a hurry like always, and found myself annoyed to be stuck behind another mom who was letting her toddler walk to their room. i remember thinking that she should just pick him up so they could get moving and that i would never have the patience for that.

the other day, tyler and i were leaving daycare and he wanted to walk. as we were slowly making our way down the driveway to our car, a woman ran by and smiled at us making our slow descent. it dawned on me at that moment that i was the woman with a slow toddler taking our time...somewhere between 5 months old and 20 months old i realized that life goes fast enough without me hurrying it along. the most important lesson i have learned as a mother is to live in the moment, the next phase comes soon enough.

dear tyler

dear tyler-
there are many, many things i love about you, here are a few of my favorites today:

you say "uh oh" whenever you (or anyone) drops something
you smack your lips and say "ahhh" everytime you take a drink
you still love to cuddle and nuzzle close when you are sleepy
your love affair/obsession with papa
how you dance anytime you hear any kind of music, especially bopping your head in the car (Night at the Roxbury anyone?)
you say "hi" when you see a phone
wearing everyone elses shoes around the house
going potty in your potty chair, but refusing to sit while you do so

love, mom

goodbye fall

As far as I'm concerned, winter has begun today...when it snows, it's winter. We definitely enjoyed our extended fall at the park by our house. I still have flowers alive, but my deck is sad and empty with our furniture stored away in our shed.

Vote

Vote on Tuesday...it's not only a privilege, but your duty. The United States has the worst voter turn out in the World...don't take your freedom for granted.

Sweet November

This has been this sweetest November I ever remember. There are things about each season that I love and look forward to:

sledding, hot chocolate, and the smell of cinnamon in the winter...

planting flowers, sunshine, and the earth re-awakening in the spring....

Pentwater, the beach, and yummy fresh fruits and veggies in the summer...

grilling out, the fourth of July, and long walks on the channel in the summer...

(ok, so I love summer a little bit more...)

colored leaves, football, and apple cider in the fall...

I usually look forward to summer and fall, dread heading into winter but do like some aspects about it and really, really look forward to spring after a long Michigan winter. I feel like fall is one of my most favorite seasons because it is usually so short. It seems like we go from hot to cold in a matter of weeks. This fall has been amazing and God is blessing us with yet another gorgeous fall week. Cheers to the longest fall I remember...we are soaking up every last drop!
